IV. New Business
A. Ongoing Institutional Objective #5: Staff Responsibilities
Mr. Stern reported that the UPT subcommittee met twice since our last meeting in December and he distributed the latest draft of the objective. The final document is due to the UPT in two weeks. Mr. Stern explained each section and urged members to make comments and offer changes. Some good suggestions to improve the report were offered by Mr. Gross, Mr. Huffman, and Mr. Reed.
B. Administrative Senate Subcommittee/Staff-Student proposals, etc.
This newly formed subcommittee met recently. Mr. Huffman gave a brief recap of the topics covered. He urged that the resulting proposals be placed on the agenda for discussion at the February meeting.
C. Committee Reports:
1. UPT - A. Stern - At the last meeting, a report was given by Bill Cahill on Information Technology. Dean Mary Lee Sweat gave a very comprehensive report on the Library, and a report on resource allocation was given by Leon Mathes.
Billie Baladouni asked about a recent survey done on staff salaries and comparison to our new peer group. This item will be placed on the agenda for our next meeting.
V. Guest - The Rev. John Weling, S.J., Dean of Campus Ministry
Fr. Weling brought and shared booklets on Campus Ministry highlighting events for each semester and detailing its Mission Statement. Fr. Weling came from Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles. He has been an ordained priest for nineteen years, and a Jesuit for the past seven years. One of his assignments was Principal of his former High School. He said he is very happy to be here at Loyola and brings experience, education and administration skills, but also a deep love and appreciation for Ignatian spirituality. The Campus Ministry staff has been given the driving message to assess the audience here on campus. As a result, the Awakening Retreats have been expanded to serve more students. Senior retreats and intercultural retreats have been added. Campus Ministry is involved and is the heart and soul of the campus. He said students have a need for spirituality and that we, as staff, must help them.
A few comments were made and questions answered, with Fr. Weling urging the staff to volunteer and join retreats to help students.
VI. Open Forum
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:40 p.m.
